My ministry within the OFC

When I first entered the OFC 8 months ago, I started out volunteering at the local food pantry, unloading trucks of food and making up food boxes for families. Due to the aggravation of an unreported injury I sustained while working in the jail a few years ago, I got to where I was no longer able to lift heavy boxes. Starting in July, I am going to be volunteering at the local LGBTQ center. In addition to this: I am a General Class Amateur radio operator, A Part 15 broadcaster, I act as a home healthcare giver as needed, finally I help to provide medical supplies and support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and its citizens.

    One of the beautiful things about the Order of Franciscan Clareans is that ministry takes many forms. Sometimes we serve by lifting food boxes. Sometimes we serve by offering a listening ear, caring for someone at home, building community, using our skills in communications, or standing in solidarity with people who are suffering.

    I’m especially grateful that, even after your injury made one form of service difficult, you sought another way to continue living out your vocation. That reflects the spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare: when one door closes, love finds another path.

    Your upcoming volunteer work with the local LGBTQ center, your service as a caregiver, your work in amateur radio and community communications, and your efforts to provide humanitarian medical support all witness to our Franciscan Clarean commitment to compassion, justice, and peace.

    Thank you for reminding us that ministry is not defined by a title or a pulpit. Ministry is every act of love that helps restore the dignity of another person.

    May God continue to bless your hands, strengthen your body, and fill your heart with joy as you continue to follow the Poor, Queer, and Crucified Christ.
